Beyond summer, my favourite time of the year is definitely Fashion Week season. I always so look forward to reading up on the stories and watching the reports on what’s new on the catwalk. Even if I can’t always attend, I find these weeks have a unique feel about them. London, New York, Paris, Milan – four cities, hundreds of designers and thousands of outfits outlining what fashions to expect soon and defining the season’s new rules… Looking for some inspiration? Here are some of the trends and brands that really caught my eye this autumn and had me following the fashion shows with avid interest.
Yellow in the spotlight
Both on the New York runways and among the guests at shows in Paris, yellow was the colour turning all heads. You must admit, yellow is an excellent choice for asserting style. It’s also a perfect hue for the first days of spring. For those who want to shine like the sun or at least dazzle with their panache, dare the full-on look all in yellow, or decide on a few brightly coloured details, like a yellow handbag or shoes. For more inspiration, check out designers Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta and their autumn fashion shows.
White is the new Black
The little black dress may be a timeless classic, but the little white dress is now becoming all the rage and makes for quite a refreshing change. A little white dress sends out several messages: I’m a romantic – but sexy too – and delicately feminine to boot! So girls, make some space in your wardrobes and hang up a white dress next to your classic black one. You’re bound to need it next season if you want to be on the forefront of fashion. And check out Baja East, Brandon Maxwell or Ulla Johnson to see that little white dress in action.
Can’t keep away from black? Opt for an outfit combining both colours in a graphic print. Stripes or checks, you’ll be guaranteed an original look. Take a look at Balenciaga.
Blazers are still in
A trend which answers one very important question: what should you wear to look fashionable even at the office? I’m sure all you girls out there with your busy schedules know exactly what I mean. Again this autumn, blazers are popular on the catwalk and there’s no better garment for blending work and personal life. Make sure yours is a good fit and defines your shoulders well to give your outfit instant personality, even out of the office. Prada and Valentino seem to think so too.
Enjoy making new fashion discoveries this autumn!
